This General is about a mile up the road from my house and I have been staring at this thing for over a year. The house looks abandoned but there is a camper on the property too with a for sale sign and I was hoping to get a phone number to call about it. I finally stopped today on my way by and what I thought was a for sale sign was actually a sign that said "do not steal this truck it is registered and insured". There was also a reference to what I believe was another vehicle on the property that was scrapped without their permission. Unfortunately, there was no phone number anywhere. So I took a couple quick pics and left before anyone stopped me since I was really on private property.
My next move it to call the number on the truck and see if the old company has any information on how to contact the owner.

I called the paving company today that once owned it. The person I spoke with didn't know anything about the truck but said they will ask around and call me back if they find anything. I don't have a lot of faith in people who say they are going to do something when they are not getting something out of it but we'll see.

I spoke with the Paving co today. Really nice guy and I was surprised he called. They sold the truck to the guy 8 years ago and a month after he passed away. He didn't have any contact info for the family though but gave me a name to try to look up. He said its got a V8 Detroit that ran like a bear. Said that truck could run 110mph and even with 60k on a trailer it would do 70-75mph with ease. So I have one more piece to the puzzle but still not closer to contacting the owners.

The update for Saturday. I ran the name and address through the county tax site and nothing comes up. I have a buddy who's a lawyer who might be able to help me. I am going to drop a note in the mailbox, truck door, and on the camper on the property as well as an office trailer they had there. Hopefully someone will call. While I am there ill try to get the vin off the truck if its open and the year so I can run it through the DMV and see what comes up. I also want to stop by the farm stand still and see if they have any contact info.

Further developments today. I found out who owns the property. I am sending a letter today and hopefully they will contact me. I ran the name through an Internet search and if I pay money I can get a phone number and email but I'll take the cheap way out first.

I spoke with the lady who owns it. The truck belonged to her uncle who passed away a few years back. She got my letter in the mail and the fact that I wanted to clean the truck up, do some restoration work and use it again made her want to contact me. Most guys just wanted to part it out or scrap it. I told her it was too cool to cut up. I am going to meet her tomorrow at the old house and she is going to let me check it out and I am going to make an offer. Being on this site, it seems like scrap price is the going rate to offer on something like this. I may have to pay more just to rescue it. She lost the keys so that is an issue and the title is lost but if I have an old registration or insurance card, we can get a duplicate. I have to ask the DMV since she was the executor to the estate, maybe there is some form she can fill out to get a copy of the title as well. But if all goes well, I will be the owner of the GMC by next week.
